Foyerbox Start free trial

Help

Set up Foyerbox, connect each of your addresses, and fix the common problems.

Getting started

  1. Choose Start free trial and create your Foyerbox account. The 14-day trial needs no card.
  2. Open the link in the email we send to confirm your address.
  3. Go to Addresses and connect your first address. Foyerbox downloads the newest 150 messages right away, then older mail in the background.
  4. Open Today for the overview, or press ⌘K (Ctrl K on Windows) to search and jump anywhere.

Connecting an address

Go to Addresses, type the address and choose Continue. Foyerbox works out who hosts it, even for your own domain, fills in the server settings and shows the steps for that provider, with a button that opens the right page. You only paste a password.

Most providers ask other apps to use an app password: a separate password just for Foyerbox, which you can cancel at any time without changing your real one. Microsoft and Google use their own sign-in page instead. To find your provider, Foyerbox looks up only the domain (the part after the @) with Cloudflare's DNS and, for less common hosts, in Mozilla's public database of mail settings; your address and password never leave your computer.

The steps for the common providers are below, in case you'd like to prepare first.

Gmail and Google Workspace

  1. Turn on 2-Step Verification in your Google Account if it isn't on yet.
  2. Open myaccount.google.com/apppasswords, type "Foyerbox" as the name, and choose Create.
  3. Copy the 16-letter password into Foyerbox (spaces don't matter) and choose Connect address.

If you don't see App passwords, your Workspace administrator may have turned them off. Use Sign in with Google instead when your copy of Foyerbox offers it.

Outlook, Hotmail and Microsoft 365

Microsoft no longer accepts passwords or app passwords from other apps. Use Sign in with Microsoft on the Addresses page. Your browser opens to Microsoft's sign-in; when it says you're done, go back to Foyerbox.

iCloud Mail

  1. Sign in at account.apple.com and open Sign-In and Security.
  2. Choose App-Specific Passwords, then Generate, and name it "Foyerbox".
  3. In Foyerbox, enter your full iCloud address and the generated password. If it's refused, try just the part of your address before the @ as the username.

Yahoo and AOL

  1. Open Account security (Yahoo, AOL).
  2. Choose Generate app password, name it "Foyerbox", and copy it into Foyerbox.

Fastmail

In Fastmail, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Manage app passwords, create one with IMAP and SMTP access, and copy it into Foyerbox.

Zoho Mail

Turn on IMAP access in Zoho Mail's settings. If you use two-factor sign-in, create an app-specific password in your Zoho account's security settings and use that.

Your own domain or another provider

Type the address as usual. Foyerbox recognizes domains hosted by Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho (including Zoho India and EU), iCloud, Fastmail, GoDaddy, Hostinger, Titan and Namecheap from their mail settings, and finds many other hosts automatically. If it can't, open Server settings and enter the IMAP and SMTP server names from your mail host. Foyerbox uses IMAP over TLS (usually port 993) and SMTP with SSL (465) or STARTTLS (587).

A domain that only forwards mail (for example with Cloudflare Email Routing) has no mailbox to sign in to: Foyerbox says so. Add the mailbox it forwards to, then add the domain address under Identities so replies come from it.

Proton Mail, HEY and Tuta don't let other mail apps connect, so Foyerbox can't add them. You can forward their mail to an address you've added.

Writing and sending

  • Formatting: bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, lists, quotes and links, from the toolbar or with ⌘B, ⌘I, ⌘U and ⌘K. Every message also goes out as plain text for apps that prefer it.
  • Attachments: choose the paper clip, or drop or paste files into the message, up to 25 MB in total. Forwarding includes the original attachments, and you can remove any of them.
  • Reply, reply all and forward: from the buttons above a message, or press R, A or F. Cc and Bcc are next to the To field; Bcc recipients are never shown to anyone else.
  • Address suggestions come from the people you write to and hear from, as you type.
  • Signatures come from each identity and switch when you change the From address.
  • Drafts save themselves in your browser as you type. Close the composer and reopen the message to pick up where you left off.
  • Undo send: after you choose Send, you have 6 seconds to take it back.
  • Send later: choose the clock next to Send. Scheduled messages wait under Scheduled, where you can send them now, edit them or cancel them. Foyerbox sends them on time from its servers, even when your computer is off.
  • Follow-up reminders: pick "Remind me if no reply" before sending. If nobody answers in time, Foyerbox tells you and lists it under Scheduled, with a button to write a follow-up.
  • Templates: choose the template button to insert a saved message, or save the one you're writing. Manage them in Settings.

Snooze

Choose the clock above a message, or press H, to hide it until later today, tomorrow, the weekend, next week or a time you pick. It waits under Snoozed and comes back to the top of your inbox, unread, at that time. Snoozing happens in Foyerbox only; your provider still shows the message.

Search covers every address at once. Add filters to narrow it down:

  • from:priya, to:billing, subject:"logo files"
  • has:attachment, is:unread, is:read, is:starred
  • after:2026-09-01, before:2026-10-01
  • in:work, the name you gave an address in Foyerbox

Summaries

Choose Summarize on a message for the gist in one line, the key points, a to-do list with due dates you can add to your calendar, the dates and amounts it mentions, and replies you can start from. For a conversation, the summary covers every message in it. With AI off, Foyerbox builds the summary from the message itself; with Foyerbox AI it's written for you.

How sync works

  • Both ways. Reading, starring, archiving and deleting in Foyerbox happens at your provider. Doing it on your phone shows up in Foyerbox at the next check.
  • Live where possible. When your provider supports push (Gmail, iCloud, Fastmail and most others do), the address shows "Live" and new mail arrives within seconds. Otherwise Foyerbox checks every five minutes.
  • Read status is respected. Downloading mail never marks it read; opening it in Foyerbox does.
  • Archive moves mail out of the inbox: to All Mail in Gmail, to the Archive folder elsewhere (Foyerbox creates one if needed). Delete moves it to your provider's Trash, and you can undo it.
  • Sent mail from any app appears in Foyerbox, and replies you write elsewhere clear "Needs a reply".
  • Provider down? Your changes wait and go up when it's back. Addresses show how many changes are waiting.
  • How much is kept. Up to 5,000 inbox messages per address. For messages over 2 MB, Foyerbox keeps only the sender, subject and date; open those in your provider.

AI

Turn on Foyerbox AI under AI for summaries, drafts, the brief and Ask:

  • Foyerbox AI: included with Pro, 500 requests a month, nothing to set up. During the free trial you get 100 requests to try it.
  • AI off: Foyerbox keeps sorting your mail, finding codes and bills, and writing the brief by itself, and no mail goes to an AI provider.

The daily brief

Foyerbox can send a short morning summary to Telegram, Slack, Discord or a webhook, at the time you choose in Settings. It's written on Foyerbox's servers, so it arrives even when your computer is off.

Fixing common problems

"Refused the sign-in" when adding an address

The password was rejected. Most providers need an app password, not your normal one: follow the numbered steps Foyerbox shows for your provider. If you recently changed your account password, app passwords may have been cancelled: create a new one and use New app password on the Addresses page.

"Foyerbox couldn't reach" a server

The server name or port is wrong, or you're offline. Open Server settings and check the names against your mail host's help pages. IMAP almost always uses port 993.

A scheduled message wasn't sent

It's listed under Scheduled with the reason. Fix the problem (for example a sign-in that needs a new app password) and choose Try again.

An address says "Checks every 5 minutes" instead of "Live"

That provider doesn't offer push to other apps. Mail still arrives, just on a timer. Choose Sync on the Addresses page to check right now.

Something I archived on my phone is still in Foyerbox

Changes from other apps arrive at the next check, within five minutes. Choose Sync on the Addresses page to update now.

I didn't get the confirmation email

Check your spam or promotions folder for a message from Foyerbox. On the confirmation screen, choose Send it again. The link works for 48 hours.

I forgot my Foyerbox password

On the sign-in screen, choose Forgot your password? and enter your email. The reset link works for one hour, and using it signs you out everywhere else.

A message says only its headers were downloaded

Messages over 2 MB are stored without their body to save space. Open the message in your provider to read it and get its attachments.

Notifications don't appear

Turn notifications on under Settings and allow them when your browser asks. Foyerbox notifies for codes, replies, security alerts and bills while its tab is open in the background. If your browser still blocks them, allow notifications for Foyerbox in the browser's site settings.

Your data

  • Export: Settings → Your data → Export gives you a zip of everything, without passwords.
  • Delete: Settings → Your data → Delete removes your account and everything Foyerbox stored. It leaves our backups within 7 days.
  • Backups: Foyerbox backs up everything daily, encrypted, and keeps 7 days of copies, so a problem on our side doesn't lose your settings.
  • Any computer: Foyerbox works in any browser. Sign in on a new computer and everything is there.

Getting more help

Under Settings → Help, Copy report copies a short diagnostics report: the app version, each address's provider and sync status, and recent errors. It has no mail content and no full addresses. Include it when you contact support.
